Large-diameter bearings are machine elements that absorb all of the axial and radial forces and the resulting tilting moments in a single, self-retaining bearing unit that is ready to install upon delivery.

thyssenkrupp develops, designs and manufactures large-diameter bearings precisely according to customer requirements. This means that we come up with unique solutions with regard to structure, material qualities and performance. Compact designs and an excellent power-to-weight ratio, an open center and integrated gearing make our large-diameter bearings ideal components for bearing applications.

From raw material to finished product, we produce all of the main components of the large-diameter bearings in-house.

We produce undivided bearings with diameters of up to 9.6 meters; bearings with diameters up to 25 meters can be made in a segmented form.

Bearings without gearing

By customer request and based on their technical requirements, we manufacture large-diameter bearings without gearing as well.

Bearings with gearing

Most of our large-diameter bearings are made with spur gear teeth. This gearing in just one of the bearing rings is advantageous because an additional drive gear ring is not required. This way we keep design expenses low and help save costs.

  • Hardening for gearing subject to high stresses (circulation process or inductive hardening for individual teeth)
  • Compact design
  • Excellent power-to-weight ratio

Segmented bearings

For logistical or design reasons, for example, segmentation sometimes makes sense. We can implement segmentation in any size. Starting at a diameter size of about 10 meters, segmentation is standard. Diameters of up to 22 meters and more can be realized.

  • Many diameters and various designs available
  • Diameters up to 18 meters with segmented design

Turntables

We have developed turntables to install in transportation vehicles. They transfer not only axial loads, but also thrust and tensile forces. Turntables are treated to prevent rust and are greased and ready to install upon delivery.

Characteristics:

  • Each turntable consists of two steel rings designed for flange mounting
  • The machining process for manufacturing the raceways allows the best force transmission direction to be used
